Maurice Thiriet
Maurice Charles Thiriet (born April 2, 1906 in Meulan , † September 28, 1972 in Puys, Bracquemont parish , Seine-Maritime ) was a French composer .
Life
Maurice Thiriet, who received his first piano lessons from his mother, began composing at the age of 13. Funded by Maurice Ravel , he began in 1923 to study with Charles Silver at the Conservatoire de Paris . From 1925 to 1930 he studied harmony and counterpoint with Charles Koechlin as well as composition , instrumentation and musical aesthetics with Alexis Roland-Manuel . In the early 1930s he learned the technique of composing film music from Maurice Jaubert .
From 1933 to 1972 he created the music for more than 80 films, including Fanfan, der Hussar (1952) and Thérèse Étienne (1957). With Children of Olympus , whose music he had written together with Joseph Kosma , he achieved international fame in 1945.
In addition, Thiriet wrote orchestral works, songs, the opera Le Bourgeois de falaise (1953) and 16 ballets . Of his orchestral works, the three-movement concerto for flute and string orchestra (1959) was particularly popular . Stylistically, Thiriet's music is largely assigned to neoclassicism . He also processed elements of jazz .
