Maurycy Constantin Krupowicz ( Lithuanian Mauricijus Krupovičius ; German  Moritz Krupowicz ; born September 13, 1823 in Grodno ; † January 24, 1891 in Warszawa ) was a Polish - Lithuanian historian .

Life

Maurycy was a son of Antoni Krupowicz and Barbara Simonowska, he married Benedykta Bouffał around 1848.

Krupowicz studied from 1842 at the University of Tartu and in 1846 ibid. Received his doctorate. He then worked as a translator for the commission for the revision of old files in the landscape archives in the Grodno governorate . From 1855 to 1865 he was secretary of the archaeological commission in Vilnius and the history museum in that city. At the same time he continued to work as an archivist and evaluated the older files in Vilnius. His two main works on Lithuanian history were also published there, as well as, at his endeavor, the work “Po ziarnie” - an anthology with various Polish articles, essays and poems. After the January uprising and the Russification that began with its suppression , he was released from his position at the archives in Vilnius in 1865 when the archaeological commission was dissolved.

Destitute, he went to Warsaw and found a job as a secretary and librarian with the Russian Field Marshal Prince Alexander Ivanovich Baryatinski in his temporary residence, the former archbishop's palace in Skierniewice .

Since 1864/1865 he was also a corresponding member of the Society for History and Archeology of the Baltic Provinces of Russia .

After Barjatinski's death in 1879, he returned to Warsaw and, thanks to his extensive knowledge of foreign languages, worked for the censorship authority as a controller of foreign printed matter.
