Max Deen Larsen

Max Deen Larsen (born March 6, 1943 in Richfield , Utah ; † January 12, 2018 in Baden , Austria ) was - together with his wife Verena, who came from Germany - the founder and director of the Franz Schubert Institute in Baden near Vienna . The American-born Austrian by choice taught at times at North American universities and was an associate professor of music at the University of Alberta in Canada .

Career

Deen Larsen was born in 1943 to Max and Maida Larsen. Larsen studied literature and philosophy at Reed College at Yale University and the University of Vienna . He lived in Baden near Vienna from 1973.

He taught poetry at the Yale School of Music and the Vienna Music Academy , opera history at Stanford and was Associate Professor of Music at the University of Alberta in Canada . He also taught at other schools and academies. Deen Larsen was the founder and director of the Franz Schubert Institute in Baden.

Since 1978 Larsen has brought together singers and pianists from all over the world for "master classes". The city of Baden honored Larsen's services for the “Schubert Days” with special recognition. In memory of Deen Larsen, the summer masterclasses also took place on the occasion of the 40th anniversary in 2018, organized by his wife “Vreni” Larsen.

Larsen was buried on January 30, 2018 in the parish cemetery in Baden .
