Max Fuchs

Max Fuchs (born September 30, 1948 in Dudweiler , Saarland ) is a German cultural scientist and university professor. He became particularly well known as the chairman of the German Cultural Council (since 2001) and director of the Remscheid Academy, as well as numerous publications on cultural theory and politics, educational theory and cultural history .

Life and work

Fuchs first completed an apprenticeship as a telecommunications technician at the former Federal Post Office. By training he allowed himself an FH study of mathematics and economics, which he called diploma - mathematician graduated. When this field became too narrow for him, he added a university degree in pedagogy and sociology , which he obtained with a Magister Artium (MA) and a doctoral thesis for Dr. phil. completed.

After initially working for many years in various positions at the Bundespost, he was then initially a grammar school teacher from 1984–1988. When he was offered the head post of the Remscheid Institute for Education and Culture (IBK), he resigned from teaching and took over the management there, later moving to a position as director of the Remscheid Academy. A few years later he also became honorary professor for cultural work at the University of Essen , which at that time was still called the comprehensive university. He was also given teaching positions for cultural and educational policy at the University of Basel and the Hamburg University of Economics and Politics .

Fuchs was active on a voluntary basis in numerous culture promotion committees and institutions. Until March 2013 he was chairman of the German Cultural Council . He was a member of the Federal Youth Board of Trustees , member of the German delegation at the UNESCO World Congress on Cultural Policy in Stockholm in 1998, member of the German UNESCO Commission , member of the Board of Trustees of the Institute for Cultural Policy of the Cultural Political Society . He was elected as spokesman for the Media Qualification Network in North Rhine-Westphalia , deputy chairman of the Socioculture Fund (1994-2000), and chairman of the European Committee of the German Cultural Council. Max Fuchs is honorary chairman of the Federal Association for Cultural Education for Children and Young People , of which he was chairman from 1994 to 2009.

Fuchs is married and has two sons.
