Max Hochdorf , pseudonyms : Aale Beust , Ayescha Begum (born March 18, 1880 in Stettin , † March 6, 1948 in Brussels ) was a German playwright , theater critic and journalist from Pomerania .

During the First World War, Hochdorf worked temporarily as a correspondent for the Berliner Tageblatt in Belgium, and during this time he wrote literary reviews for the magazine Sozialistische Monatshefte , which Joseph Bloch edited in Berlin. In 1920 he received his doctorate from the University of Friborg (Switzerland ) with a study on Gottfried Keller . In addition to his own writing work, Hochdorf later also worked as a correspondent and employee of various daily newspapers, for example as a theater critic for Vorwärts . As an opponent of the National Socialists, he had no more work opportunities in Germany since 1933, which is why he emigrated to Belgium and went into hiding under a false name from 1941 to 1944. His places of activity were Stettin , Berlin and Brussels .

Hochdorf was a Freemason in the Berlin lodge "Friedrich Ludwig Schröder".
