Max Eduard Reinhold Kästner (born December 3, 1874 in Großenhain ; † October 6, 1959 in Frankenberg / Sa. ) Was a German teacher, local researcher and conservationist.

Life

Already before the First World War, Max Kästner came to the teacher training college in Frankenberg as a senior teacher, where he presented the first publication ( student experiments ) in 1913, which was to be followed by numerous others. Most recently he was teacher at the high school (later Advanced High School ) in Frankenberg.

In his free time he was, among other things, nature conservation officer for the Chemnitz administrative district . He worked closely with the State Association of Saxon Homeland Security , which honored him in 2008 as a person who has made a special contribution.

Kästner became known in specialist circles around the world and was therefore widely quoted through an "appeal to combat the small-flowered balsam ", which he published in 1942 as the secretary of the Association of Saxon Botanists in the annual report of the association for 1941: "How should we now put this into ours Now let us ask gentlemen ... Head of the Ministry of Education to set the teachers and students in motion, the leadership of the National Socialist youth organizations. The war of extermination must be carried out before the plant begins to bloom So in May. The workers (children or adults) advance in closed chains from the roads ... Just as our entire Western culture is at stake in the fight against Bolshevism, so is an essential foundation in the fight against the Mongolian invaders of this culture, namely the beauty of our native forest s! " The call is considered an example of a pointless and hopeless project with a very questionable justification.
