Max Friedrich Gustav Rümelin , from 1905 by Rümelin , (born February 15, 1861 in Stuttgart , † July 22, 1931 in Tübingen ) was a German legal scholar and from 1908 to 1931 Chancellor of the University of Tübingen .

Max von Rümelin is the son of Gustav von Rümelin and Marie Rümelin (1824–1891), daughter of the Württemberg finance council and camera administrator Friedrich von Schmoller (1795–1865) and his wife Therese, born. Gardener (1804–1846), Gustav Friedrich Eugen Rümelin is his brother. Max von Rümelin was married to Wilhelmine Rümelin (1869–1953), daughter of the university judge Gustav Brockhoff (1825–96) in Bonn. The marriage produced a son and three daughters.

Rümelin studied in particular at the University of Tübingen . His habilitation took place at the University of Bonn . The doctor of law initially taught as a full professor of law, Roman law and civil procedural law at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg . In 1895, Rümelin followed a call to the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen . There he was rector of the university from 1906 to 1907. From 1907 to 1908 Rümelin represented the state university in the first chamber of the Württemberg state parliament . From 1908 to 1931 he was Chancellor of the University of Tübingen, and from 1914 State Councilor. Rümelin was a member of the Tübingen student association, the “ Akademische Gesellschaft Stuttgardia ”, which shaped southern German liberalism .
