Max Schmidt (born October 7, 1873 in Grabowka , Ratibor district ; † May 8, 1956 in Blankenhain ) was a German engineer , industrialist and politician ( DVP ).

Life and work

After completing school education at elementary school and high school, Schmidt attended the Higher State Mechanical Engineering School in Breslau . He completed a degree in mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt . During his studies he became a member of the Marcho Borussia Breslau country team in 1893 . After completing his studies, he worked as an engineer, production engineer and senior engineer in machine factories in Görlitz , Nuremberg , Düsseldorf and Crimmitschau . In addition to his professional activity, he acquired patents in steam engine construction. After doing military service as a one-year volunteer with the mechanistic and technical staff of the Imperial Navy , he took part in the First World War as an officer in the engineer force for two years .

Schmidt was director and board member of the Maschinenbau AG (formerly Starke & Hoffmann) in Hirschberg . He acted as chairman of the Association of Metal Industries in Lower Silesia and as chairman of the Central Office of Silesian Employers' Associations in Wroclaw. In addition, he was a member of the main board of the General Association of German Metal Industries and the Association of German Employers' Associations and a member of the main committee of the Reich Association of German Industry .

Schmidt had been a city ​​councilor in Hirschberg since 1910 and was temporarily deputy head of the city council. From 1921 to 1924 he was a member of the Prussian state parliament . In the Reichstag election in December 1924 he was elected to the German Reichstag , to which he belonged until 1928.
