Max von Chézy

Max von Chézy (born January 25, 1808 as Maximilian Anton Théodor de Chézy in Paris , † December 14, 1846 in Heidelberg ) was a German painter.

He was the second eldest son of the French orientalist Antoine-Léonard de Chézy (1773-1832) and the librettist Helmina von Chézy , née. von Klenke (1783-1856).

Like his older brother Wilhelm , he also attended the Protestant high school for the Holy Cross in Dresden . He studied painting in Dresden with Ferdinand Hartmann and also with Karl Wilhelm Wach . Further study locations were the academy in Vienna and Munich. In Paris around 1830 his father had him teach with the painter Louis Hersent (1777-1860). In March 1831 he lived in Munich, in autumn 1831 Max moved to Baden-Baden with his brother. In 1836 he stayed in Ischl. He later settled in Munich. In the years 1841 and 1842 he stayed at the Düsseldorf Art Academy .

Works

For his friend Anton Ritter von Spaun, Chézy (together with Johann Fischbach ) painted watercolors of traditional Austrian costumes that were worn by Emperor Franz I for entertainment at a folk festival in October 1833 .
