Maxim Gennadjewitsch Potapow ( Russian Максим Геннадьевич Потапов ; born May 25, 1980 in Voronezh , Russian SFSR ) is a Russian ice hockey player who was last under contract with HK Spartak Moscow from the Continental Hockey League between June 2015 and October 2017 .

Career

Maxim Potapov began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of HK Voronezh . From there he moved to the Faucons de Sherbrooke (from 1998 Castors de Sherbrooke), for whom he was active in the Canadian junior league QMJHL from 1997 to 2000 , before he spent the 1999/2000 season at his home club HK Voronezh in the Wysschaja Liga , the second Russian division, ended. The 2000/01 season he spent mostly with the Johnstown Chiefs in the ECHL . In addition, he came to one use each for the Detroit Vipers in the International Hockey League and Lokomotive Yaroslavl in the Russian Super League .

In the 2001/02 season Potapov was able to fight for a regular place at the Super League participant Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod . For this he scored seven goals in 49 games in his first full year in the Russian top division and gave eight assists. For the following season he was signed by the capital club HK Spartak Moscow , but left it after only eleven games with no points to join its league rivals Molot-Prikamje Perm . There he took on a leadership role and scored 14 scorer points in 32 games, including five goals. When his team relegated to the Vysschaya League at the end of the season, he returned to his ex-club Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod.

With Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod Potapov also had to accept relegation to the second division in the 2003/04 season , but remained with the club and achieved promotion to the Superliga with Torpedo in the third attempt in the 2006/07 season . Since the 2008/09 season , the Russian has been on the ice for Torpedo in the newly founded Continental Hockey League .

After eleven years of membership in the club, Potapov was given to Atlant Moskowskaja Oblast in September 2014 in exchange for Vladimir Malevich . Due to financial problems, Atlant withdrew from the game operation after the 2014/15 season and Potapov moved with some other players of the club to HK Spartak Moscow , which took over Atlants KHL starting place.

In October 2017 he was released by Spartak.
