Maximiano Tuazon Cruz

Maximiano Tuazon Cruz (born April 4, 1923 in Catbalogan City , † October 9, 2013 in Calbayog City ) was bishop of the Calbayog diocese on the island of Samar, part of the Philippines .

Life

Maximiano Tuazon Cruz attended the Small Seminary in Calbayog City from 1942. From 1944 he studied philosophy at St. Vincent de Paul College Seminary in Calbayog City and from 1948 theology at St. Vincent de Paul Major Seminary . He was ordained a priest on November 30, 1947 . He was initially the bishop's private secretary and later vicar at the Cathedral of Calbayog. In 1949 he became parish priest in Catbalogan. In 1965 he completed a doctorate at the Lateran University in Rome. In 1978 he became the first chaplain of the Filipinos in Rome, 1980 secretary of the bishop in Calbayog. In 1985 he was appointed Vicar General, Rector of the Cathedral, Diocesan Chancellor and Regens of the Seminary.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Auxiliary Bishop in Calbayog City and Titular Bishop of Tanudaia on November 10, 1987 . The Archbishop of Cebu , Ricardo Jamin Cardinal Vidal , consecrated him on December 1 of the same year as bishop ; Co- consecrators were Pedro Rosales Dean , Archbishop of Palo , and Manuel S. Salvador , Coadjutor Archbishop of Cebu .

He was named Bishop of Calbayog on December 20, 1994, and was instituted on January 25 of the next year. On January 13, 1999, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
