Life

Origin and family

Maximilian Anton was born as the son of Friedrich Ferdinand Joseph Anton von Boeselager (1743-1805) and his wife Maria Auguste Odilia Philippa Franzisca Scholastika von der Heyden called Belderbusch (1751-1797) of the Westphalian noble family von Boeselager , which was originally settled in the archbishopric of Magdeburg . Maximilian's brother Kaspar Anton was a canon in Münster. His sister Caroline (1776-1857) was married to Freiherr Gisbert Christian Friedrich von Romberg (1773-1859), his sister Bernhardine married Maximilian von Boeselager. He and the canons Friedrich Wilhelm and Friedrich Ferdinand were third cousins. The cathedral provost Friedrich Wilhelm Anton (1713–1782) was a second cousin. On December 19, 1797 Maximilian married the baroness Rosine Droste zu Vischering 1777-1819, daughter of Clemens August Maria Droste zu Vischering (1742-1790, Amtsdroste) and his wife Sophie Alexandrine Droste zu Füchten (1748-1817). The children of the marriage were Karl Franz Maximilian von Boeselager (1802–1869, ⚭ September 6, 1826 Adolfine von Wolff-Metternich zur Gracht (1808–1879)) and Klemens (1808–1858, ⚭ November 30, 1841 Freiin Sophie von Wolff -Mebenich zur Gracht , great-grandparents of Philipp Freiherr von Boeselager ).

Act

On October 21, 1810, Maximilian Anton reached a settlement with the von der Recke family , paid a severance payment of 66,000 Reichstaler and in return received sole ownership of Heessen Castle . There had been a decade-long legal dispute over the ownership rights to this property, which the Reichshofrat had to deal with. The Münsterland was incorporated into the Grand Duchy of Berg and the von Boeselager family was provisionally returned to their old property on February 16, 1808. Only this measure made the comparison possible. Maximilian Anton had a legal education and was able to speak French. So it made sense for the French territorial lords to use him as mayor in Munster. This happened in the year 1810. He knew how to conduct his office in such a way that he did not come into conflict with the citizens and the respective sovereign. After the French withdrew in 1813, the Prussian government confirmed him in his position as City Director of the City of Münster, which he held until his death in 1821.
