Maximilian Terhalle

Maximilian Terhalle (* 1974 ) is a German political scientist .

biography

Maximilian Terhalle studied international politics , history and international law from October 1993 to September 1995 at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg . His Master in Political Science, Modern History and State he gained and International Law in June 1998 at the - Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Bonn . In July and August 2001 he attended the Summer School in International Politics at the University of Cambridge . From September 2002 to June 2003 he studied at the American University in Cairo and the al-Azhar University in Cairo. Terhalle received his Masters in International and National Middle Eastern Politics, Islamic Philosophy and Arabic from the University of London in 2004 . In May 2006 Maximilian Terhalle received his Dr. phil. with the work " Otto Schmidt (1888–1971): Opponents of Hitler and Intimus Hugenberg" at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn.

From 2006 to 2007 Maximilian Terhalle worked at the German Society for Foreign Policy and at the German Federal Ministry of Defense as a consultant for security policy and strategy. Starting with a two-year scholarship from the Fritz Thyssen Foundation, he taught and researched from 2007 to 2011 at Yale , Columbia and Cornell Universities . From 2011 to 2015 Terhalle worked at the Free University of Berlin , the University of Potsdam , the Friedrich Schiller University Jena and the Distance University in Hagen . In 2012 he was a visiting researcher in the Department of Politics and International Relations at Balliol College, Oxford University. In 2014 Terhalle was an associate scientist in the research focus “Power, Norms and Governance in International Relations” at the German Institute of Global and Area Studies . From 2015 Terhalle worked at the University of Winchester .

His ten peer-reviewed journal articles, two special editions (2013/2015) and his book The Transition of Global Order (Palgrave, 2015) led to his habilitation at the University of Potsdam (2016).

In 2017 Maximilian Terhalle conducted research at the Center for International Studies (German: Zentrum für Internationale Studien) at the London School of Economics and Political Science and at the Center for Rising Powers at the University of Cambridge.

Maximilian Terhalle is a major in the Bundeswehr reserve . He is married and has four kids.
