Mayte Martínez
Mayte Martínez ( María Teresa Martínez Jiménez ; born May 17, 1976 in Valladolid ) is a former Spanish athlete .
Life
At the 2000 Olympics in Sydney and 2004 in Athens reached Mayte Martínez respectively the semi-finals in the 800-meter dash . At the World Championships 2001 in Edmonton (seventh) and 2005 in Helsinki (fifth) she was in the final. In 2002 in Munich she became vice European champion in 1: 58.86 minutes behind the Slovenian Jolanda Čeplak and ahead of the British Kelly Holmes .
The strong Spaniard was able to win further medals in the hall. In 2003 she won bronze at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham , in 2005 she was second at the European Indoor Championships .
After finishing seventh at the European Championships in Gothenburg in 2006 , she found her way back to old sprint strength in 2007. In the final of the 2007 World Championships in Osaka , she was at the beginning of the last round together with the Moroccan Hasna Benhassi at the end of the field. Benhassi was already trying to make up positions on the back straight, Martínez tried to follow her. At the start of the home stretch, still in seventh place, she sprinted over the field and finished third in a new personal best behind Janeth Jepkosgei Busienei from Kenya and Benhassi.
At the World Indoor Championships in 2008 Martínez came fourth and at the 2009 World Championships in seventh place. She achieved the same placement at the 2010 European Championships in Barcelona . Martínez ended her career in 2012.
Her best time outdoors is 1: 57.62 minutes (2007), indoors she holds the Spanish record with 1: 59.52 (2004). Mayte Martínez is 1.68 m tall and weighed 56 kg when she competed.
