Mediterranea is a film drama of the Italian-American director Jonas Carpignano from the year 2015 . The film celebrated its world premiere at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival and opened in German cinemas on October 15, 2015.
action
The film tells the story of the two friends Ayiva and Abas, who want to migrate to Europe from Burkina Faso . After their tug boat capsized, the Italian coast guard rescued them and found shelter in Rosarno . While Ayiva is slowly finding her way in her new home, Abas is becoming increasingly neglected and desperate. When violent riots break out in the city, their lives are put to the test.
background
The film explores the background to the unrest in Rosarno in 2010, in which African immigrants were shot and 67 people were injured. Director Jonas Carpignano had already addressed the unrest in his previous short films. All of the actors in the film are themselves migrants who live in the region and whose experiences Carpignano incorporated into the script.
A total of eleven production companies from five different countries were involved in the making of the film.
