Megan Giglia , MBE (born March 26, 1985 in Stratford-upon-Avon ) is a British disabled cyclist who is active on the road and track in class C3.

Athletic career

In January 2013, the then 27-year-old Megan Giglia suffered a stroke and was subsequently paralyzed on her right side.

Giglia, a former fitness trainer , found out about various sports that would be possible for her in the future and decided to go cycling . She took part in a talent search competition organized by the British Cycling Association and, following elite competitions over six months, was accepted into the Olympic Development Program in May 2014 and into the Paralympic Academy at the end of the year .

2015 Megan Giglia started in the class C3 in the Para-cycling track world championships in the Netherlands Apeldoorn and each was fourth in the 500-meter time trial and the individual pursuit . The following year, at the UCI Paracycling World Championships in 2016 in Montichiari , Italy , Giglia won two titles: In the 500-meter time trial, she became world champion with a new world record time of 41.761 seconds. In the single pursuit, she beat Germany's Denise Schindler , last year's world champion , in the final , after she had also set a new world record (4: 06.756 minutes) in qualifying. in the scratch she got bronze.

The following year, Giglia won the gold medal in the singles pursuit at the Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro . At the World Track Championships in 2018 and 2019 , she was both world champion in the 500-meter time trial and runner-up in the single pursuit.
