McCain grew up in Phoenix, Arizona and attended the Xavier College Preparatory , a Catholic girls' school. She studied art history at Columbia University . McCain originally planned to become a music journalist, so volunteered at Newsweek and Saturday Night Live .

McCain was compared to other prominent political children like Chelsea Clinton in 1996 because of her public role and that of her parents .

McCain started working as a political commentator for the Fox News afternoon program Outnumbered from November 2016 , taking the place that Andrea Tantaros had previously held. After her father was diagnosed with cancer in July 2017, she took a break and announced in September 2017 that she would be leaving the station. She has been a member of The View's panel at ABC since October 2017, serving as a political analyst and commentator for the broadcaster.

Positions

Her commitment to homosexuals received special attention. She has advocated same-sex marriage and criticized the US abortion regime. Her statement (2009) became known: “I am worried about the environment. I like to wear black. I think the government should stay out of everyday and business life as much as possible and act efficiently and transparently. I love punk and I am in favor of strong defense. I have a tattoo. I have a lot of gay friends. And yes, I'm a Republican. ”As a speaker at the conference of the Log Cabin Republicans , who are committed to the civil rights of gays and lesbians within the Republican Party, she reprimanded traditional Republicans as being scared shitless in 2009 (they scared into the Pants) in the face of a necessary debate about a renewal of the party.

In 2009 she described the party strategist Karl Rove, who is close to George W. Bush , as a “Twitter creep”.

At the funeral service for her father on September 1, 2018 at Washington National Cathedral , Meghan McCain gave a funeral speech in front of 3,000 invited guests, including ex-President George W. Bush and Barack Obama . Her speech was seen as the rejection of incumbent US President Donald Trump , who, although McCain's party friend, met with harsh criticism from John McCain due to his political content and rhetoric. He had declared Trump to be a persona non grata at his funeral service. Alluding to Trump's Make America Great Again slogan , she said:

The America of John McCain has no need to be made great again because America was always great. The America of John McCain has no need to be made great again because America was always great .

Many listeners applauded.
