The Mellingbek is a Hamburg stream and the right tributary of the Alster . It flows through the north of the urban area.

geography

The stream rises in the north of the Wittmoor nature reserve on the border between the Hamburg district of Lemsahl-Mellingstedt and Norderstedt to the west . It flows south and south-east, crosses the Wittmoor nature reserve, forms the border between the districts of Lemsahl-Mellingstedt and Poppenbüttel and crosses an area that is now used as a golf course . The Mellingbek flows through two copper ponds and the Hohenbuchenteiche and flows south of the Hohenbuchenpark above the Poppenbüttler lock into the Alster . The Mellingbek is thus a 3rd order body of water. The jay trench from the right and the Poppenbüttler trench from the left are worth mentioning as a tributary .

In the lower reaches are regularly dippers to see in their winter quarters.
