history
As early as 1913, the city's magistrate was planning to build a public park with a festival area and playground; but what the First World War prevented. The sports facility was opened on June 30, 1929 with the game between FC Memmingen and FC Kempten (3: 1). In 1931 the second Bavarian Women's Gymnastics Festival took place in the Memminger Stadium. On December 4, 1955, a roofed grandstand with 1,000 seats was inaugurated. The sports complex was renovated for the first time in 1959.
From 2006 to 2007 the stadium with a cinder track was converted into a football stadium. On March 27, 2006, the demolition work began on the old main grandstand. Then the running track was removed and the pitch was lowered. The main stand has 990 covered seats and journalists have five workplaces and speakers' booths. Disabled visitors will find eight seats in the main stand. A VIP room is also available to visitors. All around the playing field there are concrete standing room tiers. The floodlight system with its four 26 meter high masts is sufficient with 400 lux for the regional league and could be retrofitted. The renovation of the venue cost around four million euros.
On July 26, 2007 the stadium was opened with the handover of the keys. The first game in the Memminger Arena two days later, as at the first opening, was the game between FC Memmingen and FC Kempten in the Bayern League . This time the match ended 0-0 in front of 6,650 spectators. For safety reasons, the capacity for the regional league was set at 5,100 seats. After the promotion of FC Memmingen to the Regionalliga Süd , the stadium was adapted to the requirements of the DFB for around 160,000 euros in summer 2010 . So was u. a. the stadium fenced in all around , the playing field in the standing area fenced and a guest area with a separate entrance was built. Next to the stadium there are two more grass pitches, a small pitch and an artificial turf pitch that was renovated in 2008 .
