The sailing ship Mercedes is a steel Dutch brig that is used for day and evening trips. The tall ship was created in 2005 by converting a former trawler .

description

The ship is rigged as a brig. It is 50 meters long, 7.6 meters wide and has 18 sails with a total of 900 square meters of sail area . The masts are 35 meters high. The auxiliary sailor has a diesel engine of the type MWM TRHS 618 V16 with an output of 588 kilowatts. A maximum of 140 people can sail on the ship on day trips, and up to 36 passengers on cruises. However, the ship does not have any cabins for guests, as it is designed as a "location" for incentives and event marketing . The Mercedes takes on tall ship regattas and parades in part, these included events on the Atlantic and Baltic Sea , such as the Baltic Sail 2018 . Owner and operator is Wind is our Friend CV in Leeuwarden .

As a trawler, the ship was equipped with a Werkspoor diesel with an output of 1,497 kW.

history

The ship was built in 1958 as a trawler Huibertje with the Scheveningen fishing license plate SCH 242 for Dutch deep-sea fishing . The shipyard was the NV Scheepsbouw- en Rep. "De Hoop" v / h Gebr. Boot in Leiden (hull number 1439). It was sold and renamed several times: 1970 after Goedereede as Ora et Labora GO 5, 1981 first in Deo Volente GO 51 and in the same year after Ijmuiden as Ora et Labora IJM 15, in 1982 then after Urk as Deo Juvante UK 367 and 1983 in Urk as Atlantic UK 375. In 1988 the trawler was sold to the British Atlantic Ocean Fishing . In Atlantic A renamed, he received the external identification FD75 for the port Fleetwood and number A16710 in the Registry of Shipping and Seamen (RSS).

In 2003 the ship was sold to the charter company Wind is our friend in the Netherlands and converted into a sailing ship in Harlingen . It entered service as a Mercedes in May 2005 .
