Meredith Ann Baxter (born June 21, 1947 in South Pasadena , California ) is an American actress .

Career

Meredith Baxter first graduated from Hollywood High School . As an actress, she made her debut in television series such as The Young Lawyers and The Partridge Family in the early 1970s . She played one of the leading roles in the horror film Ben (1972). From 1976 to 1980 she played one of the main characters in the television series An American Family . For this role she was nominated for an Emmy Award in 1977 and 1978. From 1982 to 1989 she played seven seasons and 171 episodes in the successful family series Familienbande at the side of Michael J. Fox . In the sitcom Chaos City , she had a guest appearance as the mother of Fox (also). Baxter played one of the bigger roles in the film drama Rape - The Rape of Richard Beck (1985), for which Richard Crenna won an Emmy Award and was nominated for a Golden Globe .

In the thriller Deadly Greed (1990) she played on the side of Malcolm McDowell and Meg Foster . Baxter received the third nomination for an Emmy Award for portraying the twin murderer Betty Broderick in the two-part television thriller Till a Murder Do Us Part (1992). In 1996 she starred in the television series The Faculty . In the thriller The Enemy in My Husband (2003) she played alongside Tara Reid .

After three nominations for an Emmy in prime time , Baxter was nominated for her appearance in a daytime series in 1994 and 2015 .

In 2012 she published her autobiography Untied: A Memoir of Family, Fame, and Floundering .

In the Christmas films Naughty Or Nice (2012) and Becoming Santa (2015), which were produced for US television, Baxter played again at the side of her colleague Michael Gross ( family ties ).

Private life

Meredith Baxter's mother was actress Whitney Blake . Baxter was married to actor Robert Lewis Bush from 1966 to 1969 , and from 1974 to 1989 to actor David Birney (during this time she carried the double name Baxter-Birney), with whom she previously made the television series Bridget and Bernie , from 1995 to 2000 with actor and screenwriter Michael Blodgett . She has two children from her first marriage and three from her second marriage. Baxter stated in the media in early December 2009 that she was a lesbian . This is a realization in her life that she accepted late. She has been married to her long-term partner Nancy Locke since December 2013.
