Meritxell Mateu i Pi

Meritxell Mateu i Pi (born January 19, 1966 ) is a diplomat and politician from Andorra .

biography

After attending school, she studied history at the Université Montpellier III ( Université Paul Valéry ) and graduated with a licentiate . She then completed another degree in international relations at the Free Institute for International Relations Studies in Paris .

After her return to Andorra, she entered the diplomatic service and from 1995 was also a permanent delegate to UNESCO , permanent representative to the Council of Europe and ambassador to France . In the meantime, she was in 1997 as Ambassador to the European Union as well as in Belgium and Luxembourg accredited . In addition, she was briefly ambassador to the Netherlands in 1998 and to Denmark in 1999 .

Between 1999 and 2004 she was Andorra's Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany and in this role she was also Ambassador to Slovenia for a short time in 2001 .

After her return to Andorra, she was appointed Minister for Housing, Education, Youth and Research in May 2005 by the President of the Government of Andorra Albert Pintat Santolària . As part of a government reshuffle , she then succeeded Juli Minoves Triquell from May 2, 2007 until the end of Pintat Santolària's term in June 2009, Andorra's Foreign Minister.
