The Messeling , also Messlingkogel or Messelingkogel, is 2693 m above sea level. A. high mountain peaks in the Tauern main ridge of the Granatspitz group in the north of East Tyrol .

The Messeling is located in the northern central area of the Granatspitzgruppe. It is located on the main Tauern ridge south of the border between Tyrol and Salzburg in the north of the municipality of Matrei in East Tyrol . The Messeling is located to the west of the Hochgasser ( 2922 m above sea level ), the Bärenköpfe ( 2863 m above sea level ) and the Riegelurm ( 2740 m above sea level ) and forms the westernmost peak of the Granatspitz group, with the northwest flowing Tauernbach forms the border to the Venediger group . The Messelingbach rises to the northeast of the summit and flows through the Grausee, Schwarzsee and Grünsee. The Messeling is separated from the Hochgasser by the Messelingscharte ( 2560 m above sea level ).
Promotion opportunities
The ascent via the normal route to the Messling starts at the Matreier Tauernhaus . From here you first follow the so-called Dreiseenweg along the Messelingbach to the northeast to the Grünseehütte or to the Grünsee. From there, the St. Pöltner Ostweg branches off to the north or northeast, which you follow past Schwarzsee and Grünsee to the Messelingscharte. From the Messelingscharte it is easy to reach the Messeling in a short ascent. The Messeling can also be reached without a path from the Zirbenkreuz in the Tauern Valley via the west-southwest ridge.
