The Bärenköpfe are a mountain range with two peaks ( 2863 m above sea level ) in the Tauern main ridge of the Granatspitz group in the north of East Tyrol . The northern summit of the Bärenköpfe was probably first climbed around 1923 by R. Majewski and his companions, the first ascent of the southern summit took place on July 29, 1930 by R. Klose and F. Liederer via the southeast ridge.
location
The bear heads are located in the north-western central area of the garnet group. They are located on the Tauern main ridge on the border between Tyrol and Salzburg or the communities of Matrei in East Tyrol in the west and Mittersill in the east. The bear heads consist of the north summit ( 2863 m above sea level ) and the south summit ( 2835 m above sea level ). The Bärenköpfe are located between the Hochgasser ( 2922 m above sea level ) in the north and the Riegelurm ( 2740 m above sea level ) in the southeast, whereby the Bärenköpfe are separated from the Riegelurm by the Schoppmanntörl ( 2611 m above sea level ). The Messelingbach rises to the west of the Bärenköpfe and feeds three nearby lakes (Grauer, Schwarzer and Grüner See).
Promotion opportunities
The normal route to the northern summit of the Bärenköpfe is from the Schoppmanntörl over the southern flank, which is characterized by steep scree slopes, and then over the ridge ( UIAA I ). The southeast ridge can also be climbed from the Schoppmanntörl, but has more difficult climbing points ( UIAA III- ). There are also comparable difficulties at the transition from the south to the north summit ( UIAA III ) and at the transition from the north summit to the Hochgasser ( UIAA III ).
