The 2012/13 season was the 13th season in the Mestis , the second highest Finnish ice hockey league . Master of the Mestis was Jukurit Mikkeli , who prevailed in the playoff final with 3-0 victories against KooKoo .

Regular season

mode

Each team has to play four times against every other team in the league and once against the Finnish U20 national team. A team wins three points in regular time, two points for a win after extra time and one point for a loss after extra time. There are no points for a loss in regular time.

Play-offs

mode

Places 1-8 were qualified for the play-offs. The teams that had won the most of five games in the quarter-finals against their opponents qualified for the semi-finals. In the semi-finals, the best-of-5 mode was also played. The winners of the semifinals advanced to the final, while the losers in the small final played for third place. In the final five games were played again. Whoever won the most games was the winner of the season. Only one game was played in the round for third place.

The respective opponents were put together so that the top ranked team plays against the worst, the second best, against the second worst, and so on. As in the main season, a game lasted a total of 60 minutes. After the regular time, extensions of 20 minutes each were played until a winner was found through a decisive goal.

Mestis qualification

mode

The two last-placed teams of the Mestis play the participant in a best-of-five series for the following relegation with the three best teams of the Suomi-sarja . In this, the four teams competed against each other in a return match to remain in the Mestis or to be promoted.
