Somethingau
The Methingau (also pagus Methinse , Methingouwe , pays de Matois) was a Franconian district in the area of what is now the border triangle of Belgium , France and Luxembourg , the Pays skin between Longwy and Briey .
It included the towns of Answeiler , Aumetz , Baslieux , Beuvillers , Contern , Labry , Luxembourg City , Mamer , Monnerich , Rédange , Syren , Vernéville and Villers-la-Montagne .
The rulers of the thing house were among others:
- Gozelo († 942), Count of Bidgau and Methingau, from the Wigeriche family , married to Uda von Metz
- Gottfried the Prisoner (* 935/940; † April 3rd / 4th after 995), Gozelo's son, was count in Methingau in 959/960
- Adalbero of Reims († January 23, 989), Gotzelos son and brother of Gottfried, was Archbishop of Reims and ruler of the Methingau.
