MOD (short for Method of Destruction ) is a crossover - Thrash project of Billy Milano .

History of origin

After the success of SOD , the Anthrax ' guitar roadie and singer of the project formed his own band Method of Destruction. For the first album USA for MOD he used some songs that were planned for Speak English or Die , but had not been used there. Those that were a little harder than SOD caused some controversy in America and Europe. Half of the album are satires on the American hair metal scene of the 1980s and allusions to musicians like Ronnie James Dio . On the song AIDS (in this case the abbreviation of Anally Infected Death Sentence ) the immunodeficiency disease AIDS is described as " gay disease ". Furthermore, the songs Aren't You Hungry and Imported Society have racist connotations. Milano also makes fun of welfare recipients in the songs Get a Real Job and Aren't You Hungry . The controversial texts promptly brought him the charge of being a "racist pig". The European press in particular attacked Milano hard, so that he had to distance himself in an " open letter ". In this letter he distances himself from fascist ideas and declares that it is satire and not his own opinion.

The second album Surfin 'MOD , on the other hand, is less provocative. It was recorded in a completely new line-up and is a spoken word record with songs between the individual parts. In 1989, Gross Misconduct appeared ; it's a full album again and continues to rely on satirical lyrics, which are no longer racist. It contains allusions to Batman and Godzilla , among other things . With In the City is a Fear - cover version on the album.

It wasn't until 1992 that the fourth album Rhythm of Fear was released , which is rather conservative both musically and lyrically. Devolution , which focuses more on political statements, came on the market in 1994. The successor Dictated Aggression from 1996 also focused more on political content. Then there was a short break at MOD, as Milano is involved in an extensive SOD reunion.

In 2003 MOD was reanimated and the satirical-provocative lyrics returned. The album cover of The Rebel You Love to Hate is a variation of the MSG logo, with the letters of MOD Milano uses selected fun metal clichés and parodies Rage Against the Machine and Rammstein , among others . With Ass-Ghanistan , Milano also returned to his racist statements and explained how to end the war in Afghanistan : "gonna turn that desert into glass when we nuke ASSGHANISTAN".

The last album of the project to date is the 2007 album Red, White And Screwed , which is written again in the original MOD music style after the fun excursions of the last album. The album is lyrically in the redneck style and contains, in addition to the America-critical title track, above all patriotic lyrics and songs that correspond to the "Unity" idea of hardcore punk . In 2008, Billy Milano put MOD on hold for an indefinite period of time. A final concert took place on January 30, 2009 in Austin ( Texas instead).

In May 2015, Billy Milano surprisingly announced the end of the band MOD to take care of his private life. An announced summer tour of the band has been canceled.

Music genre

MOD's style of music is a mixture of hardcore punk and thrash metal, which is characteristic of the crossover scene of the 1980s, which was co-founded by the forerunner band SOD. The style is the same on all MOD albums except The Rebel You Love to Hate . MOD is primarily a Billy Milano project and the constantly changing line-ups usually don't even last until the next album. Over the years, some musicians who are also active in other bands have joined the band. For example, Scott Sargeant is also active at Skinlab and Lääz Rockit . Other former musicians include Tommi Klimchuck from Pro-Pain and Crumbsuckers , Rob Moschetti (also Pro-Pain) John Monte ( Ministry , Mind Funk ) and Tim Mallare ( Overkill ). Guest musicians included Scott Ian and Dan Lilker on the debut album .
