As Mia Mia both a small town and is an area in central Victoria in Australia called. The place is 119 kilometers north of Melbourne and 56 kilometers south of Bendigo . 178 people lived here in 2016.
It is also a large farmland area where cattle and sheep are raised. It is also part of the Heathcote wine-growing region with numerous wineries , most of which grow Shiraz vines .
history
Burke and Wills crossed the area from Melbourne to the Gulf of Carpentaria in 1860 on their expedition through Australia . They reached Mia Mia on August 25, 1860, and built their sixth camp there after leaving Melbourne. They rested for a day - a Sunday - before moving north. The road from Lancefield to Mia Mia via Ben Loch and the Great Dividing Range is now called The Burke and Wills Track .
The Post Office opened on November 22, 1861 as a sign of permanent settlement. In 1970 it was closed.
The Spring Plains sheep station of John Robertson Duigan 's father is in Mia Mia . John built Australia's first airworthy powered aircraft there with his brother Reginald Duigan in 1910. A monument at the southern exit of the town - built from a locally occurring blue natural stone - commemorates the first flight.
The western border of Mia Mia borders the Campaspe River , which is crossed by the peculiarly designed Iron Bridge .
