Michael Albert (writer)

Michael Albert (born October 21, 1836 in Trappold , † April 21, 1893 in Schäßburg ) was a Transylvanian writer and poet .

Born the son of a wealthy farmer, Albert studied Protestant theology , German language and literature in Jena , Berlin and Vienna after attending grammar school in Schäßburg . During his studies he became a member of the Teutonia Jena fraternity in 1857/58 . One of his sponsors was the theologian Georg Gustav Roskoff . Albert worked as a private tutor in Vienna and, after taking his theological exams, became a grammar school teacher in Bistritz , Transylvania in 1860 , then at the Protestant upper secondary school in Schäßburg . He received his appointment as professor in 1861. He later became director of the seminar. From 1878 he also worked as a teacher at the adult education center. He wrote his most famous works in the last ten years of his life. His grave is in the Bergfriedhof in Schäßburg.
