Michael Barthel (politician, 1944)

Michael Barthel (* 1944 in Zwickau ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and education

He finished school in Fulda from 1950 to 1963 with the Abitur at Freiherr-vom-Stein-Gymnasium . This was followed by studies from 1963 to 1969 at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin with Mac Zimmermann and Helmut Thoma . In 1968 he was appointed a master class student. From 1969 to 1975 he worked in high school education.

Michael Barthel lives in Berlin, he works as a freelance artist.

Political work

Michael Barthel is a member of the SPD. From 1975 to 1989 he was district councilor for family, youth and sport, then until 1992 district mayor in Berlin-Schöneberg . From 1999 to 2007 he headed the office of the German Olympic Sports Confederation in Berlin.
