Michael Bregel
Michael Georg Bregel (born November 30, 1971 in Munich ) is a German journalist, author and translator.
Life
After a radio traineeship at Radio Mainwelle in Bayreuth, he first studied history in Bayreuth, then political science at the Otto Suhr Institute of the Free University of Berlin and graduated with a degree in political science. From 1999 to 2004 Bregel was editor of the Berliner Morgenpost . He has been working as a freelance author, translator and editor since 2005 and, besides literary and journalistic work, mainly deals with comics .
Bregel has published poetry, prose, translations, graphics and photographs in various newspapers, magazines, anthologies and on the Internet since 1994 , including several hundred glosses in Berliner Morgenpost, Die Welt, Welt am Sonntag and on the radio. As editor and author, Bregel was involved in the anthologies "Mouth full of sand - an anthology of group 94" (1996) and "no yellow scarf - the new anthology of group 94" (1997). The volume of poetry "PulsAdernBunt" (edition .., -, Berlin) appeared in 1997 as individual literary publications, and in 2001 the short story "Die Farben Grau" (XIM Virgines, Düsseldorf). In 2006 the graphic novel "Basileia - Das Vermächtnis des Mönchs" (Brunnen Verlag, Basel), drawn by Swiss Roloff, was published, for which Bregel wrote the scenario and the dialogues together with the writer Titus Müller . He also wrote several Disney comics.
As a comic translator, Bregel edits Disney stories for Mickey Mouse magazine , The Greatest Stories of Donald Duck and the Funny Paperback , but also stories for numerous other magazines, albums and books for Ehapa , Egmont and Panini , among others , for the latter in addition to individual superhero comics, mainly Italian productions by Milo Manara , Mirka Andolfo and others. As a translator and foreword author, he is in charge of the Hägar complete edition (Egmont Comic Collection) with 29 volumes to date. He has been translating and lettering various comic strips and cartoons for Bulls Press since 2008, which appear in a large number of newspapers, in addition to Hägar the Terrible, among others, Baby Blues (anthologies at Lappan ) and Bizarro. Bregel has also published various essays on comic topics and interviews with other comic makers in magazines and books.
In 2016, Bregel was one of the curators of the internationally acclaimed exhibition “SuperQueeroes - Our LGBTI * comic heroes” in the Schwules Museum * Berlin.
Awards
Bregel has received several prizes for journalism (journalism prizes from the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung 2001 and 2004) and poetry (including the “Salamander” literature prize of the University of Regensburg in 1999, the Lyrical Prize in October 1995). The anthology "Die Ducks - Eine Familienchronik" compiled and edited by Bregel was nominated for the Sondermann Comic Prize of the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2011 , and in 2012 the comic strip series Baby Blues, which he translated and lettered, was nominated for the Max and Moritz Prize of the International Comics Salon Erlangen .
Private life
He is married to the translator and journalist Isabel Klink .
