Michael Buhre (born March 28, 1961 in Rahden in the Minden-Lübbecke district ) is a German local politician ( SPD ) and was mayor of the East Westphalian city ​​of Minden from October 13, 2004 to October 22, 2015 .

Life

After graduating from high school in Minden, Herder-Gymnasium , he studied sociology at Bielefeld University . From 1987 he studied as part of his training in the higher non-technical service at the University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration in Bielefeld ; there he graduated with a degree in administrative management (FH) . Since 1990 he has been working in the administration of the city of Minden, initially in the social welfare office , from 1997 as a project manager for administrative reform and then in school development . On September 26, 2013, he announced that he would not be available for another term of office for private reasons and that he would give up the mayor's office after his term of office in 2015 had expired.

Michael Buhre is married, has three sons and lives in Minden.

Political party

In 1978 Michael Buhre became a member of the SPD under the influence of the policies of the social-liberal coalition and in particular because of the policies of the then SPD chairman Willy Brandt for global peace and development policy. First he got involved with the young socialists and was also the spokesman for the Juso sub-district of Minden-Lübbecke. At the party level of the SPD, he was active on the boards of the SPD local associations in Hahlen, Bärenkämpen and Minden. Michael Buhre has been a member of the board of the SPD sub-district Minden-Lübbecke for twenty years, initially as a representative of the Jusos and later as deputy chairman. Since 2001 he has been chairman of the sub-district of the SPD in Minden-Lübbecke.

Michael Buhre became the next mayor of Reinhard Korte (CDU) and thus the first mayor in Minden according to the new municipal code of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia on October 10, 2004, directly elected by the citizens as mayor. He received 58.72% of the vote in a runoff election. As mayor, Michael Buhre was head of the Minden city administration and chairman of the Minden City Council and the main committee. On August 30, 2009, he was re-elected as the incumbent mayor with 48.56% of the vote, and thus chaired the Minden City Council until 2015. On September 13th, he did not run for mayoral election. His successor is Michael Jäcke , SPD candidate.
