Michael Christoph Hanow

Michael Christoph Hanow (also Hanov , Hanovius ; born December 12, 1695 in Zamborst near Neustettin (Samborsko), Pomerania ; † September 22, 1773 in Danzig ) was a meteorologist, historian, Mag. Phil. Professor of Mathematics and from 1717 rector of the Academic Gymnasium Gdansk .

Life

Hanow studied in Danzig and Leipzig and was a private tutor in Dresden , Leipzig and Danzig before he accepted a position at the Academic Gymnasium Danzig in 1727 . He wrote numerous articles and books that were in the Gdansk City Library. From 1739 he published Danziger Nachrichten and a weekly magazine with a weather forecast. In 1743 he was one of the founding members of the Natural Science Society in Danzig . The term biology goes back to him. In 1745 and 1767 he published Jus Culmense , the complete Culmian law ( Kulmer law ), as well as a collection of Prussian, previously unpublished, documents.

With Georg Daniel Seyler , Gottfried Lengnich and David Braun , he was one of the most important regional historians of the 18th century.
