Michael Dammann Eisner (born March 7, 1942 in Mount Kisco , New York ) is an American manager. From 1984 to 2005 he headed the Walt Disney Company .

Life

Eisner comes from a wealthy Jewish family. He attended the Lawrenceville School in New Jersey, but then - contrary to the wishes of his family - did not enroll at Princeton University , but at the small Denison University in Ohio. At first he studied medicine, but quickly switched to English literature and theater and graduated with a BA in 1964 . He has been married to Jane Breckenridge since 1967 and has three sons with her.

He began his professional career at ABC television , where in 1976 he became senior vice president of prime time and programming development. In 1977 he became president of Paramount Pictures . As with ABC, he was responsible for numerous successful productions there.

Michael Eisner has held the position of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Disney Company since 1984 . Sid Bass and Roy E. Disney had stood up for him and Frank Wells . Eisner, together with the former Warner Brothers boss, led the company out of a major crisis. The two managed the turnaround, as they were able to lead the animation division to the height of old successes.

Under Eisner's direction, a theme park was built near Paris , the theme parks in California , Florida and Tokyo received new attractions and new parks, and he was also involved in the planning of new hotels. The company grew through acquisitions: for example Capital Cities / ABC and Miramax . He also played a key role in the development of the Disney stores. Numerous successes have also been achieved in the production of real and animated films, such as Ariel, the Mermaid , The Lion King , Armageddon , The Sixth Sense and Pearl Harbor . The new Walt Disney Theatrical division produced successful musical productions: Beauty and the Beast , The Lion King , The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Aida .

Due to conflicts with, among others, Roy E. Disney and Steve Jobs , the then managing director of Pixar , Eisner ended his employment with Disney in 2005 and left his position to the vice-president Robert A. Iger .

Since then he has run his own production company, The Tornante Company . Tornante invests and produces in the media and entertainment sector. The company invested in the online video production company Vuguru, in the video portal Veoh , where Eisner now works as a board member, in the confectionery and merchandising company Topps and in the animation series Glenn Martin, DDS and BoJack Horseman .

According to Forbes, Eisner's personal wealth is $ 1 billion (as of 2015).
