Michael Dorris

Michael Dorris ( January 30, 1945 - April 10, 1997 ) was an American anthropologist and writer .

Michael A. Dorris wrote some of his books in collaboration with his wife Louise Erdrich in the 1980s and 1990s . His best-known book is The Broken Cord (German: Don't tell him about the mountains: The moving story of the Indian boy Adam ). The book is based on a true story. Dorris tells how he adopted young Adam as a single father. His primary hypothesis was that everything can be regulated through loving care.
According to his own admission, he failed. Little by little he realizes that Adam is incurable. He was diagnosed as mentally retarded, emotionally retarded from fetal alcohol syndrome .

In 1996, Louise Erdrich separated. Michael Dorris then died by suicide .
