Michael George Bowen
Michael George Bowen (born April 23, 1930 in Gibraltar - † October 17, 2019 in Vauxhall , London Borough of Lambeth ) was a British clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Southwark .
Life
Michael George Bowen was ordained a priest on June 29, 1957 . After studying at the Pontifical Gregorian University , he obtained a degree in philosophy and theology.
Pope Paul VI appointed him on May 18, 1970 Coadjutor Bishop of Arundel and Brighton and Titular Bishop of Lamsorti . The Apostolic Delegate in the United Kingdom , Archbishop Domenico Enrici , ordained him episcopally on June 27 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were David John Cashman , Bishop of Arundel and Brighton, and Derek John Worlock , Bishop of Portsmouth .
With the death of David John Cashman on June 12, 1994, he succeeded him as Bishop of Arundel and Brighton. Pope Paul VI appointed him Archbishop of Southwark on March 28, 1977. On November 6, 2003, Pope John Paul II accepted his early resignation.
Michael George Bowen was a member of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem . In 1985 he founded the Magistral Delegation of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem in Gibraltar and was its Grand Prior until 1998 . He was also Grand Prior of the Lieutenancy of England and Wales of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem from 1977 to 2003.
Bowen died in St. Peter's Home in Vauxhall.
