Michael Gotthard Fischer

Michael Gotthard Fischer (born June 3, 1773 in Alach ; † January 12, 1829 in Erfurt ) was a German organist and composer .

Life

Michael Gotthard Fischer was a student of Johann Christian Kittel , thus Johann Sebastian Bach's grandchildren . Fischer succeeded Kittel as organist at the Erfurt Predigerkirche and also worked as an organist at the Barfüßerkirche . From 1816 Fischer taught figured bass and organ at the Erfurt teachers' seminar . August Gottfried Ritter , Ludwig Ernst Gebhardi and Eduard Grell were among his students. Due to his gout , he was forced to resign from his position as organist in 1820.

Fischer created numerous vocal and instrumental compositions for solo instruments, small and large ensembles, mainly his organ compositions became famous.
