Michael Kienzle (born April 5, 1945 in Helmstedt ) is a German literary scholar and local politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ). He lives in Stuttgart .

Michael Kienzle studied German and history in Freiburg im Breisgau and Konstanz , and did a second degree in education . In 1974 he received his doctorate in German studies. He researched and then taught at the Institute for Literary Studies at the University of Stuttgart . He wrote essays, conceived events, exhibitions - for example on Theodor Heuss or Friedrich Wolf - and published scientific articles - for example on the subject of censorship - often in collaboration with Dirk Mende , with whom he also published the series of thinking sheets, which were part of the course " Unitext ”was created.

From 1984 to 2014 (with an interruption from 1989–1994) he was a member of the Stuttgart municipal council for Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen . His main areas of work were cultural policy, urban planning and transport policy. In this function he was a member of many administrative boards, cultural advisory boards and supervisory boards. He was also involved in civic initiatives and was chairman of the Theaterhaus e. V. Stuttgart, co-initiator of the initiative to preserve the historic Bosch area or the association to found a new children's and youth theater (JES). He is a member of the jury of the Schubart Literature Prize of the city of Aalen , chairman of the board of trustees of the Forum der Kulturen Stuttgart e. V. and member of the board of trustees of the Academy for Spoken Word in Stuttgart.

After the arson attack on the house at Geissstrasse 7 in Stuttgart in 1994, in which seven people lost their lives and another 16 were injured, he initiated the founding of the Geissstrasse Seven Foundation , which then repaired the house and set up a residential project. Since then, he has designed and has been responsible for the foundation's intercultural and critical urban history program, of which he has been the managing director since 2005. From 2014-2016 he headed the "Speeches" department at the State Ministry of Baden-Württemberg and has been writing speeches as a freelance writer and teaching speeches since then.
