Michael Killisch-Horn

Michael Killisch von Horn (born June 9, 1940 in Berlin , Germany ; † February 16, 2019 in Kitzbühel , Austria ) was an Austrian politician . In the Austrian Parliament he acted under the name Michael Killisch-Horn as a member of the National Council . In alpine skiing he was known as Michael Horn, especially in his role as the speaker of the international Hahnenkamm races in Kitzbühel or as "the voice of the Hahnenkamm ".

Life

Killisch von Horn, who was born in the Berlin district of Wilmersdorf , came to Austria when he was just one year old. Here he also completed compulsory schools and passed his Matura in 1959 . He then studied economics at the University of Innsbruck and graduated in 1965 with a degree in economics . In 1966 he became director of the Kitzbühel Kurhaus and the “Aquarena” indoor swimming pool. From 1972 to 1986 he was chairman of the board of Kur- und Moorbad Kitzbühel AG. In 1986, under his leadership, KUMAG was merged with Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel. Killisch von Horn remained the Kurhaus director until his retirement in 2001. He sat in the specialist group for baths and health resorts in the Tyrolean Chamber of Commerce. In this function he was a section head from 1996 to 2001 and deputy section head in the Federal Chamber of Commerce in Vienna.

Michael Killisch-Horn, who was a party member of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP), became a member of the Kitzbühel municipal council in 1974. In the same year, he was also elected First Vice Mayor of the Tyrolean district capital. He remained deputy mayor in the second and third electoral terms, but resigned from the municipal mandate in 1987 after his election to the National Council . Until his departure, he was also the city's sports officer, chairman of the Kitzbühel public utility company and represented the community on the supervisory board of Felbertauern (Straßen) AG (Lienz).

In December 1986 he was elected as a member of his party in the Austrian National Council, but Killisch-Horn only belonged to one legislative period until November 1990. During this time he was a member of the trade, building and domestic policy committee and tourism spokesman for the ÖVP.

In 1997 he was elected chairman of the tourism association in his home town, sat on the supervisory board of Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel (BAG) and, in 1999, managed to merge the tourism associations Kitzbühel - Reith i. T. - Aurach into one unit. In 2001 he resigned from the TVB chairman.

In 1980, Killisch von Horn and his wife Christl founded the Kitzbühel guest newspaper SERVUS, which they published five times a year until 2001, each with a circulation of 13,000. In 2001 they sold SERVUS to Kitzbüheler Anzeiger GmbH.

Killisch von Horn had been a member of the organizing committee of the International Hahnenkamm Races (HKR) since 1958. He was initially deputy press officer under Josef Pepi Strabl and from 1960 to 1973 and from 1982 to 1984 press officer of the HKR. He became better known as the place speaker for the Hahnenkamm races from 1963 to 2009. He was also the place speaker at the Olympic Games in 1964 and 1976 in Innsbruck and at the Alpine World Ski Championships in 1982 in Schladming . In order to bring "the spirit of the Hahnenkamm" to the USA as well, the organizers of the ski world cup races in Aspen, Vail and Heavenly Valley hired him between 1980 and 1989. His voice was also heard over the microphone at the Australian World Cup races and Thredbow. The Kitzbüheler Ski Club (KSC) accepted him into the Weisenrat in 2006 , of which he was chairman from 2012.

He died on February 16, 2019 after a brief, serious illness.
