Amphoe Galyani Vadhana ( Thai : อำเภอ กัลยา ณิ วัฒนา , RTGS : Kanlayani Watthana) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) in the west of Chiang Mai Province . Chiang Mai Province is located in the northern region of Thailand .
The district was officially established on December 26, 2009. It was named after Princess Galyani Vadhana .

Neighboring districts are (from the east clockwise): Amphoe Samoeng and Mae Chaem in Chiang Mai province, as well as the Amphoe Mueang Mae Hong Son and Pai of Mae Hong Son province .
The district is located in the Doi Inthanon Mountains, with the settlements mostly to be found in the valleys.
history
The project of the establishment of the new district goes back to 1993, when on May 17, 1993 the Tambon Council of the Tambon Ban Chan proposed to establish a new "branch circle" ( King Amphoe ) from three tambon of the Amphoe Mae Chaem. Preparations were made for this in the following years. Due to the aftermath of the Asian crisis , all planned new districts were canceled by the government in 1997 in order to avoid additional costs.
Around 2005 the project came back on the agenda and studies were carried out by the Chiang Mai Provincial Administration and the Department of Provincial Administration . On December 2, 2008, the project was approved "in principle" by the Cabinet following a proposal by the Interior Ministry that a new district should be established in honor of Princess Galyani Vadhana.
On July 7th, King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX.) Gave the new district, which was previously known as Wat Chan ( วัด จันทร์ ), the name Galyani Vadhana. In the cabinet meeting on October 13th, the Interior Ministry was authorized to set up a new district.
On December 25th, 2009 the decree was published, with which the district was established with effect from December 26th. When it opened, the county became the 878th district in Thailand. Since there is a royal project in Tambon Ban Chan, the new district did not first have to be a subdistrict (King Amphoe), but was upgraded directly to an Amphoe. Initially, the new county government will be located in the Tambon Ban Chan, a new building will be built in Village 2 of Tambon Chaem Luang.

- Mae Daet (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล แม่ แดด ) consisting of the complete tambon Mae Daet.
- Chaem Luang (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล แจ่ม หลวง ) consisting of the complete tambon Chaem Luang.
