Amphoe Chom Thong (in Thai : อำเภอ จอมทอง ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) in the southern part of Chiang Mai Province in the northern region of Thailand .

geography

Neighboring districts are (from the south clockwise) Amphoe Hot , Mae Chaem , Mae Wang and Doi Lo Chiang Mai province, and Amphoe Wiang Nong Long and Ban Hong of Lamphun province .

Much of the district is taken up by the Op Luang and Doi Inthanon National Parks . The Doi Inthanon , with 2565 meters the highest mountain in Thailand, located on the northwest border of Chom Thong District. The eastern part of the district is traversed by the Mae Nam Ping (Ping River) .

Attractions

  • Wat Phrathat Si Chom Thong - one of the most important temples in the province, supposedly founded around 750, Wihan in the Lan-Na style with a mondop containing the highly venerated relic Phra Boromathat Chom Thong . In Thai folk Buddhism, it is a popular pilgrimage destination for people born in the year of the rat .

There are six municipalities with "small town" status ( Thesaban Tambon ) in the district:

  • Ban Luang (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บ้านหลวง ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Ban Luang.
  • Sop Tia (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล สบ เตี๊ ยะ ) consisting of the complete tambon Sop Tia.
  • Ban Pae (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บ้าน แปะ ) consisting of the complete tambon Ban Pae.
  • Doi Kaeo (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ดอย แก้ว ) consisting of parts of the tambon Doi Kaeo.
  • Mae Soi (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล แม่ สอย ) consisting of the complete Tambon Mae Soi.
  • Chom Thong (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล จอมทอง ) consisting of the parts of the Tambon Ban Luang, Khuang Pao, Doi Kaeo.

There is also a " tambon administration organizations " ( องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - Tambon Administrative Organizations, TAO)

  • Khuang Pao (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ข่วง เปา ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Khuang Pao.
