Amphoe Mae Taeng (in Thai : อำเภอ แม่แตง ) is a district ( amphoe - administrative district) in the northern part of Chiang Mai Province . Chiang Mai Province is located in the northern region of Thailand .

Neighboring counties (clockwise from north): the Amphoe Chiang Dao , Phrao , Doi Saket , San Sai , Mae Rim and Samoeng of the Chiang Mai Province, and Pai of the Mae Hong Son Province .
history
The Khwaeng Mueang Kuet ( เมือง กื้ ด ) was founded in 1892 and renamed Mueang Kaen ( เมือง แกน ) in 1894 . At the beginning of the 20th century, the counties outside Bangkok were renamed from Khwaeng to Amphoe . The Amphoe San Maha Phon ( สัน มหาพน ) therefore existed since 1907 . This was finally renamed Mae Taeng in 1939.

There is one commune with "city" status ( Thesaban Mueang ) in the district:
- Mueang Kaen Phatthana (Thai: เทศบาล เมือง เมือง แกน พัฒนา ) consisting of the complete Tambon Cho Lae and parts of the Tambon Inthakhin.
There are five municipalities with "small town" status ( Thesaban Tambon ) in the district:
- San Maha Phon (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล สัน มหาพน ) consisting of the complete Tambon San Maha Phon and parts of the Tambon Khilek.
- Mae Taeng (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล แม่แตง ) consisting of the complete tambon Mae Taeng.
- Chom Chaeng (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล จอม แจ้ง ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Khilek.
- Mae Ho Phra (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล แม่ หอ พระ ) consisting of the complete tambon Mae Ho Phra.
- Inthakhin (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล อิน ท ขิ ล ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Inthakhin.
In addition, there are seven " Tambon Administration Organizations " ( องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - Tambon Administrative Organizations, TAO)
- Sop Poeng (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล สบ เปิง ) consisting of the complete tambon Sop Poeng.
- Ban Pao (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล บ้าน เป้า ) consisting of the complete tambon Ban Pao.
- San Pa Yang (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล สัน ป่า ยาง ) consisting of the complete Tambon San Pa Yang.
- Pa Pae (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ป่า แป๋ ) consisting of the complete tambon Pa Pae.
