Amphoe Mae Ai (in Thai : อำเภอ แม่อาย ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) in the extreme northeast of Chiang Mai Province . Chiang Mai Province is located in the northern region of Thailand .

Neighboring districts are (from the southwest clockwise) the district Fang Chiang Mai province, the Shan State of Myanmar and the Amphoe Mae Fa Luang , Mueang Chiang Rai and Mae Suai of Chiang Rai province .

An important river in the district is the Maenam Kok ( Kok River ) , which flows from Myanmar to Chiang Rai.

history

Mae Ai was founded on August 15, 1967 as a "branch circle" ( King Amphoe ) , consisting of the three tambon Mae Ai, Mae Sao and Mae Na Wang, which were split off from the Amphoe Fang . On June 28, 1973, Mae Ai received full amphoe status.

  • Mae Ai (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล แม่อาย ) consisting of the parts of the Tambon Mae Ai, Malika.

  • Doi Lang (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ดอย ลาง ) consisting of the parts of the Tambon Mae Ai, Malika.
  • Mae Sao (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล แม่ สาว ) consisting of the complete tambon Mae Sao.
  • San Ton Mue (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล สัน ต้น ห มื้อ ) consisting of the complete Tambon San Ton Mue.
  • Mae Na Wang (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล แม่ นา วาง ) consisting of the complete tambon Mae Na Wang.
  • Tha Ton (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ท่า ตอน ) consisting of the complete Tambon Tha Ton.
  • Ban Luang (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล บ้านหลวง ) consisting of the complete tambon Ban Luang.
