Michael Klein (theologian)

Michael Klein (born November 24, 1964 in Wissen ) is a German church historian and Protestant pastor . He is an adjunct professor at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg , author of several specialist books and is considered an expert on the life of Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen .

Life

Michael Klein studied Protestant theology between 1983 and 1990 at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn and at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität in Heidelberg. After the first theological exam at the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland , he passed the second theological exam there in 1992 after two years of vicarage . From 1993 he was pastor in the auxiliary service in Hamm in the Altenkirchen district . After his ordination in 1994, he was elected pastor of the parish in 1995.

As a part-time job, he wrote his dissertation on the life, work and aftermath of the founder of the cooperative, Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen, at the Diakonie-Wissenschaftlichen Institut in Heidelberg, where he completed a postgraduate course in diaconal science . It completed this course in 1996 with a diploma .

In 2003 he completed his habilitation in the Department of Church History at the Church University of Wuppertal / Bethel and received his teaching license in the same year . In 2004 he received his doctorate in philosophy at the Distance University in Hagen and had teaching assignments in Wuppertal and Heidelberg. In 2007 he received a substitute professorship for historical theology of modern times at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität. Since 2010 he has been appointed as an adjunct professor for church history.

His main research interests in the Reformation are the social order at the time and the relationship between Islam and it. Other focal points are social Protestantism in the 19th and 20th centuries and political Protestantism in the 20th century.

He is a member of the Scientific Society for Theology , the Association of Historians in Germany and the Luther Academy Ratezburg-Sondershausen.

He is a member of the board of trustees of the German Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen Society . At the 2nd Weyerbusch Talks in 2008 of the Westerwald Bank in the Raiffeisen meeting center , he was described as a proven Raiffeisen expert.

He is married to the theologian Larissa Seelbach and has two daughters.
