history
Volksbank Westerwald eG
In December 1862 in the then Nassau town of Hachenburg, around 300 craftsmen, farmers and small traders founded the “Hachenberger Advance Association” based on the cooperative idea developed by Hermann Schulze-Delitzsch . Such advance payment or savings and loan associations were also formed in Bad Marienberg (1863), Emmerichenhain (1865; now a part of Rennerod ) and Selters . Knowledge (1870) and Ransbach-Baumbach (1876) followed later . The “Volksbank Westerwald eG” was later formed from the mergers of these cooperatives.
Raiffeisenbank 2000 Westerwald eG
In the adjacent and then to Prussia belonging Altenkirchen founded in 1849 the Flammer fields mayor Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen the "Flammer fields Hülfsverein to support impecunious agriculturists". This association was one of the forerunners of the cooperative foundations suggested by Raiffeisen. In 1862, the first loan associations were founded in the region on the initiative of Raiffeisen. In the business area of today's Westerwald Bank, further savings and loan associations were founded in 1868 in Puderbach ( Neuwied district ), in 1869 in Almersbach , Altenkirchen , Flammersfeld , Horhausen (all Altenkirchen district) and Rengsdorf (Neuwied district), and in Kroppach (Westerwaldkreis) in 1879 . These cooperatives merged over the years to form “Raiffeisenbank 2000 Westerwald eG”.
Westerwald Bank eG
In 2001 the “Volksbank Westerwald eG” and the “Raiffeisenbank 2000 Westerwald eG” were merged and have since then been operating under the name “Westerwald Bank eG, Volks- und Raiffeisenbank”. Since 2011, the Westerwald Bank, together with the WGZ-Bank and the DZ-Bank, has been supporting the large-scale Raiffeisen Campus project , a newly founded, cooperative-sponsored high school in Dernbach (Westerwald) .
