Michael Laurenz , born Michael Laurenz Müller (born August 29, 1978 in Halle (Saale) , Germany ) is a German opera singer ( tenor ). He is considered a representative of the play tenor ( tenor buffo ) or character tenor subject .

Life

Michael Laurenz is the son of Hermann Michael Müller and Rosi Müller (née Appelt). His real birth name is Michael Laurenz Müller. He is married to Nicole Weber, whose family name he now bears.

Laurenz began music education in Halle / Saale at the special school for music with the instruments trumpet and piano . This was followed by a degree in orchestral music with a major in trumpet in Leipzig and Berlin. The most important teacher was Konradin Groth (Berliner Philharmoniker).

Michael Laurenz worked as a trumpeter in various ensembles and orchestras. He was a member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra , the Jena Philharmonic , the Nordharzer Städtebundtheater , the Berlin Police Orchestra and the Berlin Symphony Orchestra .

Michael Laurenz began his singing career with the Mozart opera La finta giardiniera as Belfiore at the Martin Luther University in Halle. This was followed by performances such as Die Zauberflöte in the U-Bahn (Tamino) in Berlin, productions at the Munich Chamber Opera and La Cenerentola (Ramiro) with the Stuttgart Philharmonic .

As a member of the International Opera Studio in Zurich (2008–2010), Michael Laurenz u. a. the title role in Offenbach's Barbe-Bleue, Siegfried in Oscar Straus ' Die Lustigen Nibelungen and the man with the donkey in Orff's Die Kluge .

Immediately afterwards he took on roles at the Zurich Opera House , of which he has been a member of the ensemble since the 2010/11 season.

Laurenz also sings at the Theater an der Wien , the La Scala in Milan , the Paris Opera , the Salzburg Festival , the Bregenz Festival and the Glyndebourne Festival .
