Michael Ludwig (born December 19, 1972 in Vienna ) is an Austrian foil fencer .

Life

He was a fencer in the Austrian Fencing Association and trained mainly in the BSFZ Südstadt under the direction of Lajos Szlovenszky and later Gerd Salbrechter . After the 2005/06 season Michael Ludwig resigned from active fencing. This season he won the bronze medal at the World Cup in Copenhagen and was among the top 32 at the Paris Grand Prix (where he lost to Austrian Mortiz Hinterseer ). At the 2006 World Cup in Turin, he lost in the battle for a place in the top 64 against Szabados after a lead. In the 2006/07 season he fought again at the World Cup in Venice, but also failed here at the hurdle of the best 64. He celebrated his greatest successes at European Championships. There he won a total of eight medals, including the gold medal in singles at the European Championships in 1992 . In his three Olympic appearances , a fourth place with the team in 1996 in Atlanta was the best placement.

In 1997 he received the Silver Medal of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria .
