Michael Ludwig Wellmer (* 1783, presumably in Central Germany; † between February 1 and February 21, 1859 in Munich ) was a German lawyer , state civil servant , non-fiction author and satirical writer .

Life

After completing his law degree, Michael Ludwig Wellmer started his civil service career and was employed by the City Justice Directorate of Erlangen in 1807 ; Around 1810/11 he became city court director in Wunsiedel . After the dissolution of the city court, he was given the post of district judge in Markt Erlbach in March 1812 , which he held until 1830. Wellmer's superior had been the legal scholar Paul Johann Anselm Feuerbach in Ansbach from 1817 , whom he held in high esteem as a person, although he did not always agree with his theories. In 1819 he went public with a comment on the intended standardization of the Bavarian statutory mortgage order; The motives for the bill had been summarized and published by the State Councilor Nikolaus Thaddäus von Gönner .

In order to be able to pursue private business in Nuremberg, Wellmer had himself put into temporary retirement. When he gave his farewell speech on August 21, 1830 on the occasion of the handover of the district to his successor Vocke and the associated handover of the Markt Erlbach Regional Court , he took the opportunity to point out the increasing impoverishment of the rural population. Although not directly part of the area of responsibility of a district judge, Wellmer had campaigned for social and infrastructural improvements in Markt Erlbach.

In Nuremberg he worked as an active partner in the Ludwigs-Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft , the operating company of the Ludwigseisenbahn from Nuremberg to Fürth, on whose board of directors he sat until 1835. As a lawyer, he was entrusted with drafting the first draft of the new company's statutes.

At the turn of the year 1842/43 he was reactivated as a civil servant and from January 1843 was the city commissioner of Fürth for the local Kgl. City Commissioner. He held this office until the end of 1849, when he was released into final retirement in recognition of his services.

Wellmer wrote a number of writings legal and political content as well as critical advice and satirical literary works. His statement on the mortgage regulations in Bavaria, published in 1819 , was addressed several times during a session of the Second Chamber of the Estates Assembly on May 5, 1819 by the deputy Johann Christoph von Aretin , who described him as "experienced in business". His provocative and sensational work , published in March 1826, What can we hope for Bavaria from the recent change of the throne? led to a public reply by advocate and real advice Joseph von Miller.

Wellmer is considered to be the author of the anonymously published satirical treatises Scherzburger Actenstücke . He is also responsible for the successful Hammelburger Conversations-Lexikon , which, according to the Leipziger Literaturzeitung , was written by the same author in April 1820.

He was a member of historical, artistic and agricultural associations, as well as the Polytechnic Association for the Kingdom of Bavaria. He died in Munich at the age of 76.

The writer Meta Wellmer , born in 1826 (according to other sources, 1832) was his daughter.
