Michael Masberg

Michael Masberg (born January 4, 1982 in Datteln ) is a German director and author .

Life

Michael Masberg grew up in Waltrop and studied theater studies and German at the University of Bochum . From 2005 to 2009 he worked as a permanent assistant director and director at Theater Oberhausen . In 2007 and 2008 his productions of Lutz Huebner's Das Herz einer Boxer (for the direction) and David Harrower's Messer in Hennen (for actor Caspar Kaeser ) were awarded the Oberhausen Young Talent Prize. Since 2009 he has been working as a freelance director and author. In 2010, together with the set designer Stefanie Dellmann and the media artist Miriam Sadowski, he founded the theater label epikur hotel as a laboratory for experimental stage art, which performed with its productions at the Fusion Festival in 2011 .

From 2005 to 2017 he worked as an author for the pen and paper role-playing game Das Schwarze Auge and was involved in numerous publications within the gaming world.

From 2013 to 2017 he headed the interdisciplinary exhibition format Beat Salon in Essen and the surrounding area as curator and conférencier . Since 2018 he has headed the Kaleidoskop exhibition series in the same function .

In addition, he works freelance for the musical course at the Folkwang University of the Arts and as Associate Creative Director for the Berlin event agency battleROYAL . In collaboration with batteROYAL , he was involved in award-winning productions such as the opening ceremony of the European Capital of Culture Aarhus 2017 and the anniversary show for the 125th anniversary of the Madsack publishing company .

Michael Masberg lives in Essen.
