Michael Nordhausen

Michael Nordhausen (born April 11, 1915 in Freialdenhoven , Düren district as Hubert Nordhausen ; † June 17, 2003 in Mönchengladbach ) was a German Franciscan and federal curate of the German Scouting Society Sankt Georg .

Life

From 1927 Hubert Nordhausen attended the Kaiser-Karls-Gymnasium in Aachen and from 1930 to 1935 the Franziskanerkolleg in Exaten near Roermond ( Netherlands ). On May 8, 1935 he entered the Cologne Franciscan Province of the Three Kings ( Colonia ) and received the religious name Michael . He completed the novitiate in Aachen . After the Reich Labor Service he began his studies in Mönchengladbach and Bonn . In August 1939 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht . During a convalescence leave he made solemn profession on May 21, 1943 and was ordained a priest on May 30, 1943 . At the priestly ordination and the primacy in Würselen he was only allowed to wear the habit of the order in the church , outside he had to go in military uniform.

At the request of the Archbishop of Cologne, Joseph Cardinal Frings , he was active in youth ministry in 1950, in particular for the scouts in Cologne and from 1953 to 1962 as Federal Curate of the German Scouting Society Sankt Georg (DPSG) . From 1962 to 1974 he was Provincial Minister of the Cologne Franciscan Province. During this time, the Colonia boarding school and grammar school were moved from Exaten to a new building in Vossenack ; The monastery in Remagen was also given a new building. During the term of office of Father Michael the monasteries in Aachen and Bonn were closed . As Provincial, he was committed to implementing the resolutions of the Second Vatican Council on the renewal of religious life, in particular the abolition of the ideological and legal division of the Franciscan order into a community of priests and a - inferior - of lay brothers .

In 1992 Michael Nordhausen was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for his services .
